in my monthly discworld newsletter I read that Terry Pratchett has been nominated for a knighthood. I didn’t know but apparantly people have to sign a pettition if they are in favour of someone receiving a knighthood and so far there are 15 signatures. to be eligible to sign people must be UK residents.
today I went to the photographic exhibition at the National Gallery. nearby there was a screening of a silent piece which was so relaxing to watch. then we looked at the sneaker exhibition which is also on. they were all free. each time I go to these exhibitions either at the NGV or the Arts Centre I say to myself that I have to make time to come more often. but, guess what? I don’t make as much time as I should for it. it is so good for the soul.
tonight I went to a lecture on the roads of Melbourne. it was the history of how Melb was layed out. it was interesting to note that the grid we have in the CBD is not aligned north/south, east/west. Robert Russell who planned it apparently did it that way because of the way the Yarra river went. Then Hoddle came along and wanted to change some things. He wanted to extend Bourke St to go out thru East Melb but the local MP’s didn’t want that to happen so they decided that’s where they would put Parliament House. Has anyone ever heard that before? I know I haven’t. all this including decisions being made in Sydney and in London all combined to effect the city we now have.
vivavoce, meinrosebud, benbarren, pinkkrin, coco3004. we have appeared in the Stonnington Leader. I am going to try and scan it in to here so here goes.
it appears that hannahsgranpa’s posts on UFO’s and religion have both attracted over 30 comments each. is it possible for you to let us know if this is the most anyone has had so far? thank you.
I spent a lovely relaxing afternoon sitting on the banks of our lovely Yarra river watching the water skiing. I strongly recommend that every Melbournian/Victorian go and watch this amazing sport. it is on all this weekend. children of course will love all the sideshows but that is all part of it. the Moomba weekend is great for children and adults.
tomorrow is international women’s day but there is never much said about it. I think it should go for at least a month with many functions and events so that people will actually take notice.
I just saw the film called The Queen with Helen Mirren. I can’t say that it was earthshattering or deep but it was a pleasant enough film to see on a Sunday.
