Who is your Favourite Miss Marple?
Published 1 year, 8 months ago in Entertainment.apropo of one of the latest nooks being Miss Marple I wondered which of the actresses people liked best playing that role. I like Joan Hickson. I think she was between Margaret Rutherford and the current actress (who’s name escapes me) who will be seen on the ABC tonight.

As you might have guessed from my nook, I think there is no better Miss Marple than Margaret Rutherford. It is just a shame that she was only in four of the films. They do, however, remain timeless classics. I can watch them again and again. It’s also a bonus that they star our own Charles (Bud) Tingwell as Inspector Craddock. I think my favorite one is Murder, she said. I really adore the banter between Miss Marple and Inspector Craddock in this one. It is also great to watch Miss Marple and Mr Stringer together as they are so cute together (apparently, he was her husband in real life).
Did you know Joan Hickson starred as the house keeper, Mrs Kidder in the 1961 film, Murder She Said? Miss Marple was played by my favourite all time actress, Margaret Rutherford. The film is based on the Agatha Christie’s book The 4.50 from Paddington.
There’s a great send up spoof of this very film on You Tube, check out this link:

yes missmarple I can see that you obviously like Margaret Rutherford. as I said I do prefer Joan Hickson. and yes thank you ednaharhling I read that she was the housekeeper in Murder She Said. their is a great biography on Joan Hickson in wikipedia. I just watched the Agatha Christie on the ABC with the new actress but they changed the story, the plot and the characters and I was frustrated all the way thru it. I don’t think I’ll watch next week. I have been listening to the audio books lately and I like that because you can imagine the story as they are being read.
oh! I forgot. thank you ednadarhling I looked up youtube. it was very funny.
You’re welcome lyni. Yes, I couldn’t get into the new Miss Marple either.
Who is the voice reading the Miss Marple audiobooks? I might see if our local library has any. Cheers!
they have different people reading them, female and male. some that I’ve heard have been read by Joan Hickson. you will have to check with your library to see which particular audio books they have ednadarhling.
